Danish jazz singer with international potential

Sinne Eeg demonstrated how deeply a Danish vocalist can get into the Great American Song Book. For instance, Richard Rodgers is a favorite of jazz artists; Miles Davis recorded an entire album of his compositions. But I haven't heard many jazz artists cover songs of his considered too wholesome, like "The Sound Of Music." Eeg sang it with enough style to reinvent it. For good measure, she threw in "My Favorite Things," a song previously reinvented by John Coltrane.
Eeg often used her gorgeous voice as an instrument, scat-singing expertly before, during, and after the verses and choruses of her songs. She sang a few of her own compositions, which, on first hearing, sounded pretty strong. And her rendition of "Comes Love" was as good as any I've heard. But perhaps her finest performance came near the end of her set in the form of another great standard, "Detour Ahead."
